Location is close to city center.
Very basic minimal hostel style room. Not the cleanest but okay for a short stay.
Very good location, nearly in the city center. Very friendly hotel staff. Everything was as I expected. Good place to start your Alaska experience.
The location was ok.
I´m not a complaining person and have been in backpackers before but I regret to have to say that the hotel was extremely dirty. Besides the staff was careless, lazy and unprofessional, which may be due because of the inefficient management.
Great price for Alaska. Good location. Very clean restrooms.
Thin walls; scanty furniture in private room.
Booked a double bed room [double deck]. The management didn't inform me that theres another customer coming to share the spare bed. Its was an awkward scene when he popped open the door. Will be good to have more toilets
Dirt, cold rooms and far from main attractions
- Good location - relatively quiet and safe area, just 10 min. Off downtown anchorage (walking distance). - OK price/quality (for Alaska, that's it). - Helpful and supportive staff (though not always friendly). - Mini-fridge in each room. - Decent restaurants, take-away stalls, etc, just 2 blocks away.
- Dirty and permanently soggy shared bathrooms. - Overall rundown and makeshift furniture, facilities, etc. Strives hard to get that quaint "mountain hut" appearance, but it just fails at it. - Stuffy and smelly bedrooms. - WiFi Internet access didn't work at all in the basement rooms. I had to go upstairs to get good reception. - One of the glass panes of my double-glazed window was broken. There were sharp shards all over the place.
We enjoyed our base at the backpackers particularly the downstairs which was warm and spacious. We came and went several times being part of an intrepid tour. Having access to the internet was also a big plus.
A problem I had at the backpackers was the slowness of the desk staff when checking in. It could have been the computer programme but we were booked in the 3 times we came to the Alaska Inn and there was a big delay in sorting rooms. Being booked in and not casual visitors should have been straight forward.
Clean bed sheets every day.
Only one women's bath/toilet on our floor.
The people that I met there were all kind.
no refund for leaving early due to travel changes.
To many transients stay here. No backpackers just crazies and homeless people who hit the pan handle lotto.
The Backpackers Inn was cozy and comfortable. I really enjoyed my brief stay and was thrilled to find a laundry room, kitchen, and relaxing "living room" space downstairs. I would stay there again in a heartbeat.
The front desk could definitely be more friendly. One particular person, guy with long hair, was really unpleasant and seemed to be there a lot.
Staff is really nice:) We also liked paintings on the walls. And books on the shelves, and games in the living room. Lots of space, good location and all this for a very reasonable price. Thank you!
Nice and helpful staff, free internet access, laundry and kitchen facilities
All rooms without bathroom, no racks in private rooms
Location and rate
The hotel management did not honor my reservation. Even though I had made the reservation for a full week, they changed me three times of room and one of them since I was out the staff went into my room in my absence and removed all my belongings without notice or cause. When I inquired, all they had to say was "We are sorry, we thought you were not staying any longer" - but I had made myself crystal clear that I was staying for a full week from the beginning and the reservation said so. Other issues: uncleanliness and lack of good heating in rooms (it's Alaska). Unbelievably unprofessional, even when considering it is a hostel.
